IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCES View fullsize While most of the time my role is as a composer for visual media, I get ecstatic about exploring possibilities for works and sounds composed and designed for real, physical spaces. Sound has a tremendous influence on us, often before or without us being conscious of it. Perhaps you’ve experienced the feeling of rising tension resulting from a horror film’s rumbling drone or found yourself never quite enjoying your meal at that cavernous restaurant where everyone’s voices seem too loud and boomy. Sound can comfort us, disturb us, even completely shape our perception of an experience. In spite of this, in restaurants, bars, hotels, and other curated spaces, sound is often an afterthought, or treated like an unaffordable luxury. In reality, the acoustics of a space can be maximized with simple adjustments, and custom music and sounds can be sculpted to underscore and enhance the aesthetic intent of a space or event. My experience in fields like sound engineering for live music, producing recorded music, and studying the physics of acoustics has given me a wide range of tools. You’ll have to stop me before I attempt to talk your ear off about acoustic ecology and the ideal reverb time for a space meant for conversation. At any rate, here are some projects where clients wanted specific soundtracks to underscore the themes of their events. Animation Hired Hand Movie Magic INTRODUCTION
